Tips to reduce your electricity bill

Tips to reduce your electricity bill

Are you looking for ways to reduce your electricity bill? It all starts with reducing energy consumption. And it’s a lot simpler than you think. Small changes in your flats in Bangalore (or any other city), and just remembering to turn off the lights and fan when you leave the room can be a great way to start. Conserving electricity isn’t just good for your pockets but also the environment. You can add the savings to invest in apartments in Whitefield or Apartments for sale in horamavu or in other up and coming neighbourhoods.
Here are some tips to reduce your electricity consumption that will translate to a smaller figure on the bill.

1.Light coloured walls

Walls painted in lighter shades are better at reflecting natural light, this way you can make the most of the daylight and eliminate the need to use artificial light whenever you can. This not only saves energy but exposure to natural light is known to help improve mood.

2.Switch to energy efficient appliances

Replace old appliances that usually consume a lot of electricity. Modern appliances have a more energy efficient mechanism. Another energy efficient option to take up would be to change the lights in your home to Led bulbs and tubelights.

3.Use task lights

Some activities don’t need the whole room to be lit, in such cases use task lights. For instance, reading lamps get the job done without wasting energy.

4.Use power strips

When using multiple appliances that require an electrical connection, plug them into a power strip or extension cord. When you’re not using them you can turn them off all at once to prevent standby energy loss.

5.Install solar panels

Solar energy has almost unlimited potential and should be harnessed to generate clean renewable energy. The one time cost of installation is more of an investment, as you will continue to save a lot of money on your electricity bill.

6.Keep clean

Change the air conditioner filter regularly to keep the vents open to maximise air flow. Clean ceiling fans too, to allow better air circulation. Dust the bulbs, tube lights and lamps, dirt reduces light reflection and can absorb 50 percent of the light.

7.Avoid ovens (when you can)

Microwaves consume less energy than ovens by reducing cooking time. Use it to heat or cook food especially if it’s a small quantity. Also electric kettles are a better alternative to heat water. For optimum use, heat only the amount of water you need instead of the whole kettle.

8.Monitor refrigerator use

Make sure there is enough space for continuous airflow around the fridge.Clean the coils regularly for the same purpose. Keep it away from sources of heat such as direct sunlight, oven or the stove. Avoid opening the fridge door pointlessly. Don’t put hot food inside, allow it to cool first, and defrost the freezer regularly.

These are some simple steps you can take to reduce unnecessary electricity consumption and save on electricity costs.
